My Dad came to visit us for a few days in April. The amount of time and energy he put into his visit with us was utterly amazing. It was much different than any other visit. I was truly grateful for the time we were able to spend together. He not only spent time with Sophia but helped me where he could. We took a walk together every day and got a bagel. At one point during the visit he even acknowledged that being home with a child seems like a lot of hard work and could better appreciate what I do every day by being part of it. I was really touched to hear that. For those of you who know me can certainly understand what a transformative experience this was for me. It was a bittersweet thing seeing him try to connect with my own daughter and who she is all the while knowing that wasn't my experience growing up. It's comforting to know we all can evolve, if we take the steps to do so.
The most vivid and touching image I didn't get on film was when I pulled up to the garden plot to drop off some more hay to spread and I saw Dad and Sophia laying side by side on top of a grassy hill just looking at the clouds. However, I was able to catch a few good moments.
